Match the abrasive to the metal and the stage of work: use a thin (1-1.2mm) cutting disc for fast, cool cuts, a grinding disc for weld dressing, and step down through flap or fibre disc grits (40 to blend, 60-80 to refine, 120+ to finish) for a clean surface. Always check the disc's diameter, bore and max RPM against your grinder, and keep stainless work to non-contaminating abrasives marked INOX so you don't embed carbon steel and cause rust.
