Use a steel liner for steel and stainless wire, and a Teflon or graphite liner for soft aluminium. Match the liner bore to your wire diameter and cut it to the correct length for your torch, and replace it when feeding turns erratic — a kinked or worn liner is the usual hidden cause of a stuttering arc.
