The key choice is DC-only versus AC/DC: DC covers steel and stainless, but you need AC/DC to weld aluminium and magnesium. Look for HF (lift or high-frequency) arc start, adjustable slope and post-flow, and pulse on finer work; check the duty cycle at your working amperage, and remember many TIG sets double as stick welders.
