The tungsten does the work: use 2% lanthanated (gold/blue) as an all-round choice for AC and DC, sharpened to a point for DC steel/stainless and balled or lightly pointed for AC aluminium. Match the collet and collet body to the tungsten diameter, and switch to a gas lens with a larger cup for better gas coverage on stainless and where you need extra stick-out.
